Subject: RE: [xri] Implementations and Interop

We, Neustar, are in the process of upgrading the GRS to WD10 compliance.  Until we are done, we (thanks to Wil) have put up a temporary perl cgi script to do server resolution services.  It simply looks for XRD documents on the file system.  If any one would like to submit XRD test case files I will gladly push them to the resolution server.  The URLs to our three resolution servers are:

http://equal.beta.xri.net/cgi-bin/xri/

http://at.beta.xri.net/cgi-bin/xri/

http://bang.beta.xri.net/cgi-bin/xri/

So far there is one test case:  http://equal.beta.xri.net/cgi-bin/xri/*les.chasen

Once we have the GRS up to spec we will support dynamic update through the GRS provisioning interface.  The beta urls for that will be

http://equal.beta.xri.net

http://at.beta.xri.net

http://bang.beta.xri.net

thanks

Apologies.

Subject: [xri] Implementations and Interop

Moving forward, I think it is extremely important that we have validated multiple interoperable implementations of XRI parsing and resolution before we should call our specifications final. Toward that end, I would

1) Like to hear who is implementing the current draft specifications (and who is these implementations publicly).

2) When we could set up a interop event (probably a "virtual" event to start) to test both interoperability and to validate that the specification is understandable and unambiguous.

Toward these ends, I have set up a set of pages on our wiki (linked off of the front page at http://xri.oasis-open.org/xri under Interop and Conformance Testing).

For a "virtual interop" event (which should also lead to significant feedback on the spec itself), I propose we have participants set up resolution servers and implement resolution of a variety of test XRI deployments which excercise multiple features. Participants testing client implementations should then run all tests against all participants testing server implementations. I actually think we have some interesting interop testing issues with proxying and lookahead that we'll have to think through as we get closer.

I propose sometime in late February for this first interop event - this implies the resolution specification will have settled down a while before this. I certainly hope this is the case.

At some point, we will publish these test "cases" in some more formal way beyond the wiki. We'll certainly want to publish *results* moving forward.

For those contributing to the spec, I would especially encourage you to go over to the wiki and start building out the test cases. This is *absolutely* critical if we are going to have a usable spec in the wild.

THANKS
