Subject: About the new ballot "IPR Transition Request"
XRI TC Members and Observers: I received a question about the current ballot: "What other options are there?" While the new OASIS IPR policy (adopted in early 2005) has three modes (RAND, RF/RAND, RF/Limited -- see http://www.oasis-open.org/who/intellectualproperty.php). All TCs must formally adopt a mode by the end of 2006. When the XRI TC was formed, we incorporated a paragraph into our charter that required us to produce only RF (royalty-free) standards under what are now the equivalent of the RF/Limited mode. So we really have no choice but to adopt RF/Limited mode -- yet we still need a vote of the majority of the TC voting members to REQUEST to hold the official transition vote (that's the ballot below). After that vote, we'll need another vote to actually approve the transition. So please do vote as soon as you can on this (see the link in the message below). Contact Gabe or myself if for any reason you don't have access to your OASIS login information to complete the vote. =Drummond ************************ OASIS Extensible Resource Identifier (XRI) TC member, A new ballot has been presented to OASIS Extensible Resource Identifier (XRI) TC.
