Subject: Re: [xri] Groups - XRI Resolution v2.0 WD 11 ED 03 (xri-resolution-v2.0-wd-11-ed-03.doc) uploaded

As discovered during today's call, the line numbers may be f**ed up when using different versions of Word. My line numbers seem to be valid only when using Word 2007.

Therefore I added some [position] descriptions to my previous mail to clarify what I meant.

[position] Section 4.2.5 in the xrd:XRD/xrd:Service/xrd:Ref paragraph

Don't understand this sentence:
Line #444: "Identical to xrd:XRD/xrd:Ref except this identifier serves as a forward reference to another XRDS document."

Doesn't the xrd:XRD/xrd:Ref also serve as just that?

Oh no, you changed the whole Yadis section.. Now I have to review my implementation :)

I think the section should give some advice on how to detect loops.
1) If the X-XRDS-Location header (or equivalent HTML element) points exactly to the same URL you requested, the protocol should fail.
2) After some maximum number of X-XRDS-Location headers (or equivalent HTML elements), the protocol should also fail.

---

What service endpoints should go into a self-describing XRDS document? The same as the ones in the XRDS issued by the parent authority?

[position] Section 7.1.4, numbered paragraph 2.

Line #941: Why can a community root authority consist of only a single subsegment? And why is it in parentheses in the example?

---

Section 9.8: OpenXRI currently can't do that at all. I added a few more entries to the Roadmap:
http://dev.inames.net/wiki/OpenXRI:RoadMap#Server_-_Authority

(22 items now in the list....)

---

[position] Section 10.7, the highlighted IMPORTANT part

Lines #1713-1718: This will break all my @freeXRI community i-names.. But it's easy to fix :)

---

Figure 9 is funny :) I bet you still had all that XDI talk in mind when drawing this!

---

[position] Section 12, the highlighted IMPORTANT part

Lines #1885-1887: "There is no guarantee that all XRDs that describe the same child authority will return the same verified CanonicalID. Different parent authorities may assert different CanonicalIDs for the same child authority and all of these may all be verifiable. "

Not sure how to interpret this... Does that mean a child authority can have multiple parent authorities? If yes, this is new, right?

Different question for the same thing: Can you realize the situation in Figure 7 without the use of Refs?

---

[position] Section 12.1.2, numbered paragraph 3.

Line #1908-1912: Does this mean for every GlobalID / CanonicalID you must have a <Query> or <LocalID> even for the LAST subsegment? I thought we always said you only need them for all subsegments except the last one.

But I actually think it's better to require them on all levels including the last, because I can think of a few problems otherwise.
