Subject: OASIS Standard Submission for XRI Resolution 2.0
Mary: On April 11, 2008, the XRI TC unanimously approved XRI Resolution 2.0
Committee Draft 03 as a Committee Specification. Since this completes the XRI
2.0 suite of specifications (consisting of XRI Syntax 2.0 and XRI Resolution
2.0), at the same time the TC unanimously approved submitting both of these
Committee Specifications to the membership of OASIS for consideration as an
OASIS Standard. This email serves as our submission for the XRI Resolution 2.0
Committee Specification and has been copied to the XRI TC mailing list. We list
each of item required for submission under the headings in section 3.4 of the
OASIS TC process document (http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/process.php#OASISstandard).
********************* a) Links to the approved Committee Specification in the TC's document
repository, and any appropriate supplemental documentation for the
specification, both of which must be written using the OASIS templates. RESPONSE: The following links are current as of the Committee Specification vote
and will be replaced by the TC Administrator with the links to the final
Committee Specification: PDF format: http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xri-resolution-V2.0-cd-03.pdf HTML format: http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xri-resolution-V2.0-cd-03.html Word format: http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xri-resolution-V2.0-cd-03.doc ********************* b) The editable version of all files that are part of the Committee
Specification; RESPONSE: The following links are current as of the Committee Specification vote
and will be replaced by the TC Administrator with the links to the final
Committee Specification: Word format: http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xri-resolution-V2.0-cd-03.doc The RelaxNG schema files,
that are included normatively in the specification document, are available as
separate files at: http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xrd.rnc http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xrds.rnc Additionally, W3C schema
files are available as separate files at: http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xrd.xsd http://docs.oasis-open.org/xri/xri-resolution/2.0/specs/cd03/xrds.xsd
********************* c) Certification by the TC that all schema and XML instances included
in the specification, whether by inclusion or reference, including fragments of
such, are well formed, and that all expressions are valid; RESPONSE: The XRI TC certifies that to the best of our knowledge, all XML schemas
in the XRI Resolution 2.0 specification are well formed and valid. Note that
while the specification includes both RelaxNG and XSD schemas for convenience,
the RelaxNG schemas are normative. ********************* d) A clear English-language summary of the specification; RESPONSE: The XRI Resolution 2.0 specification, which is a companion
specification to the XRI Syntax 2.0 specification for abstract structured
identifiers, provides a simple standardized method for performing resource
discovery on either HTTP(S) URIs or XRIs. XRI Resolution 2.0 defines a simple
generic XML discovery document format called XRDS (Extensible Resource
Descriptor Sequence), a standard protocol for requesting XRDS documents using
HTTP(S) URIs, and standard protocol for resolving XRIs using XRDS documents and
HTTP(S) URIs. Both generic and trusted versions of the XRI resolution protocol
are defined (the latter using HTTPS [RFC2818] and/or
signed SAML assertions [SAML]). In addition, an
HTTP(S) proxy resolution service is specified both to provide network-based
resolution services and for backwards compatibility with existing HTTP(S)
infrastructure. ********************* e) A statement regarding the relationship of this specification to
similar work of other OASIS TCs or other standards developing organizations; RESPONSE: Although XRDS documents bear a conceptual similarity to Uniform
Resource Characteristics (URC) documents as proposed in IETF RFC 1737, the IETF
did not further pursue URC development. To our knowledge no other OASIS TC or
SDO has defined a simple generic XML discovery document format and resolution
protocol. ********************* f) Certification by at least three OASIS member organizations that they
are successfully using the specification; RESPONSE: The following OASIS members have submitted certifications of successful
usage: Planetwork, Inc. http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xri/200803/msg00022.html XDI.org http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xri/200803/msg00038.html NeuStar http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xri/200803/msg00048.html Cordance http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xri/200804/msg00005.html ********************* g) The beginning and ending dates of the public review(s), a pointer to
the announcement of the public review(s), and a pointer to an account of each
of the comments/issues raised during the public review period(s), along with
its resolution; RESPONSE: XRI Resolution 2.0 Committee Draft 02 was submitted for a 60-day public
review on 02 December 2007, ending 1 February 2008. The announcement is
available at: http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200712/msg00002.html XRI Resolution 2.0 Committee Draft 03 was submitted for an additional
15-day public review on 10 March 2008, ending 26 March 2008. The announcement
is available at: http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200803/msg00004.html The XRI TC published an accounting of the resolution of the
comments/issues raised during these comment periods at: ********************* h) An account of and results of the voting to approve the specification
as a Committee Specification, including the date of the ballot and a pointer to
the ballot; RESPONSE: The ballot to approve XRI Syntax 2.0 Committee Draft 03 as a Committee
Specification was held via an online ballot commencing 4 April 2008 and ending
11 April 2008. The vote was unanimously in favor, with 19 of 21 eligible TC
members voting. The ballot is published at: http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/xri/ballot.php?id=1446
********************* i) An account of or pointer to votes and comments received in any
earlier attempts to standardize substantially the same specification, together
with the originating TC's response to each comment; RESPONSE: There have been no earlier attempts to standardize this specification. ********************* j) A pointer to the publicly visible comments archive for the
originating TC; RESPONSE: The XRI TC Comment Archives are available at: http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xri-comment/ ********************* k) A pointer to any minority reports submitted by one or more Members
who did not vote in favor of approving the Committee Specification, which
report may include statements regarding why the member voted against the
specification or that the member believes that Substantive Changes were made
which have not gone through public review; or certification by the Chair that
no minority reports exist. RESPONSE: No minority reports were submitted. ********************* Respectfully submitted, Gabe Wachob and Drummond Reed Co-Chairs, OASIS XRI TC |
