Subject: Re: [xri] An acknowledgement of flat namespaces

And . in an i-name would have to be mapped to something else.

We shouldn't worry about ".at" or ".equal" as TLD names, because "@" and "=" don't mean "at" or "equal". Rather, they mean "organization" and "individual". And don't forget that "$" means "metadata" or "spec", not "dollar". It's OK with me if we forget about "+", but other people want to keep it.

So we could consider a TLD like ".xri" under which we could have something like "org.xri", "ind.xri", and "spec.xri".

Or, we could have separate TLDs for each like ".xorg", ".xind", and ".xspec".

.at and .equal, with all i-names in the GRS automatically mapping to subdomains?

Oops .at is taken already. :)

A lot of people think ICANN has lost their marbles, but this is an
interesting development - potentially opens up DNS for being a much
more "flat" namespace --- where you can have any TLD for $50k to
$100k:

From a namespace management point of view - this is looking more like
i-names, only backwards, and with the '.' character, and with a few
less charactrers, and using DNS resolution...
