In the processing instructions, the parser will look for those (at the appropriate time) and ignore any MediaType or other Rels. It will attempt to fetch the documents pointed to by the <URI> (in priority order) and only use them if they are valid XRD 1.0 documents.

It is worth checking if there is a similar registered link relation (from atom or html) and point out that they are not the same in the spec to avoid confusion.
