Alastair, I think your re-casting of the various emails does not leave
anything out and certainly doesn't convey the wrong argument from what I can
see. However, I'd hope that recent emails could fill in the answers to any
questions you made.

If we do not believe that identity change is a necessary part of the
protocol then we (HP) can live with the proposed modifications. However,
since we are always having to cater for the lowest common denominator in
terms of carrier-protocol, will we get bitten in the future if we make that
decision as a "yes" (i.e., that we do believe that identity change is NOT
necessary).
