Subject: Re: [cmis] [CMIS] About the pronunciation of CMIS...

Internally, we have been referring to it as See-Miss for a while.

In general, people will go for the shortest pronunciation possible anyway as measured by number of syllables. That's why there is so much usage of acronyms. In this case, it's 2 syllables vs. 4 syllables.

I just happened to see “Some early thoughts on CMIS” from CMS Watch in my feed reader. In it, Alan states that CMIS is pronounced “See-Miss.” Honestly, this is the first time I’d ever heard that pronunciation. I’d always said or heard “see em eye ess” (i.e. C M I S).

Realizing recently the whole “language” conversation around, for example, Atom Publishing Protocol (i.e. if not stated fully, then say “AtomPub” rather than APP), perhaps we should more formally agree to the common pronunciation of CMIS.

I realize that, in some ways, this concern is a minor one. Yet, CMIS is still very formative and ramping up; so, it seems like a good time to raise this nit for the TC’s consideration.
