I wasn't really thinking of using InDesign as an editing tool. I was
more looking at a transform as a way to extract information from
existing documents in InDesign.

That said, you make a really good point about the actual source of text
in many (if not most) instances. Having had a brief, and positively
scary, flirtation with InDesign, I would never use it as a text editor.
While it would be nice to have an alternative to InDesign's clunky, at
best, ePub export, an export to DocBook probably isn't that alternative.
