Subject: DSML 2.0 "wish list" from NetworkMagazine.com
NetworkMagazine.com ran an article[1] a few months ago that has just come to my attention. It contains some out of date and incorrect information, however it did include a wish list for DSML 2.0 gathered by the article's author: I would be interested to discuss each of these in the context of our requirements: - Mapping of LDAP functions to DSML to enable directory access, and read and write operations over HTTP for firewall traversal and directory-enablement of Web applications; - Publishing the hierarchical directory information of a DSML-enabled directory service; - Identifying and profiling the source of DSML-encoded directory schemata and entries; - Translating directory elements and attributes between DSML and legacy file formats; - Defining mechanisms for DSML-enabled directories to dynamically extend their schemata in response to new directory elements and attributes contained in incoming DSML documents; - Defining access controls applicable to elements and attributes in exported directory schemata, elements, and attributes; - Signing and encrypting DSML-encoded directory schemata and entries to ensure that unauthorized parties don't modify them.
