Experienced process architects and standards developers roll up their sleeves and deliver practical education:

  1. BPEL and BPMN workshops with detailed examples of the language and the notation. What are these standards and how may they be used to define processes? Who is adopting them? How will they evolve?
  2. The standards landscape. What is being accomplished by today's most influential standards bodies (such as OMG, OASIS, WfMC and W3C)? How does their work interweave to create a cohesive process ecosystem? Where are there gaps in the standards landscape? How might further innovation fill those gaps?"
  3. The process life cycle. Where do standards, technology and practice help with process design, deployment, execution, maintenance, and optimization?

Breakout Sessions with active Working Groups (visitors and new members welcome):

1. Related to BPEL:

• Business Process Extension Layers (BPXL) - Covering human collaboration, transactions, roll-back, mobility, etc.

• Business Process Query Language (BPQL) - Providing the ability to query and report on the status of business process instances (incorporating appropriate security).

2. Related to BPMN:

• Explore use of OMG BPDM to generate XML Schema for BPMN -

(i) Allow transfer of BPMN models between tools.

(ii) Facilitate path to execution of UML based models in BPMS or SOA environments.



• Extend modeling practice and technology for higher-order business representations -

(i) Specifically explore Capability Modelling.


• BPMN to XPDL.

• Assess ebXML requirements on BPMN.

• Explore implications of Rules Management standards emerging out of OMG.
