Subject: Negotiation Notes for today's meeting
Negotiation Notes from Sept 10, 2004
1. Kartha outlined plans for the negotiation spec. We will meet once every two weeks till Septmber. Kartha will review the spec (excluding the Negotiation Protocol) and post comments to the group.
2. Dale said he will help with the section on the Negotiation Protocol up to date. He will raise this in the BPSS team meeting.
3. Sacha agreed to compile the different ways of formation of a CPA template, and the different states in the negotiation process.
4. Dale suggested using a new value of the status attribute called "Template" to distinguish between a CPA and a CPA template. Marty wanted clarification on the difference between the value “Proposed” and “Template”.
5. Marty pointed out that the NDD needs to have some way of specifying that the contents of a field were dummy values. (TODO)
6. Sacha said that he believed that the most interesting/difficult piece was the development of NDD. He also suggested that when a party receives a CPA template and an NDD, it has to do some work such as (a) Checking that the NDD reflects the preferences in its own NDD for its CPP (b) Making sure that the NDD does not “cheat”-i.e it allows the negotiation of the items that the party is interested in negotiating etc. Kartha pointed out that all this can be considered part of the negotiation algorithm and out of scope. Dale pointed out that the logic to decide whether to accept or reject an offer might include a human in the loop, when the automated system decides no negotiation is possible: for instance, in the case when the CPA template and the NDD force a choice that is deemed unacceptable by the automated system. In that case, a human might still decide to accept the CPA template, if for business reasons, he considers it worthwhile.
7. Need to carefully look at all instances of “CPA Template” and “Draft CPA” and decide to choose one or both (TODO)
