David, I agree with your goal. However I am skeptical of achieving it with a single "stripped down" CPA. I very much doubt that all the groups you mention would agree on what can be omitted from the CPA. Just think about security, packaging, and all the possible variations in BPSS structure. Those topics make up the bulk of the CPA contents. By all means, let's try. Someone needs to start posting thoughts on what can be omitted from the CPA while still satisfying all those groups. To reiterate: Personally, I believe that a more realistic goal is a set of profiles developed by fairly homogeneous subsets of the industry. Each profile would define what is required and what is to be omitted for CPAs in the area covered by the profile. This profile approach worked in Fibre Channel (SAN) and in other areas where it was tried (I think that the ATM Forum is another example). Forinstance - service companies - accounting - and then drill-down into some of the verticals, like food service, auto repair, transportation, insurance, healthcare, and so on. In many ways this looks like the true measure of us actually succeeding - when we clearly show how the CPA technology applies to real world scenarios. Once we have some sets like this we can classify them using UNSPSC or similar. Thanks, DW. =================================================== Message text written by Martin W Sachs > David, (PLease post to ebXML-iic.) Actually, the original question concerned a minimal CPA subset that would be good for a particular customer set and lots of others. It wasn't just for a small sample to study. The main issue here is what we mean by "lots of others" and whether it makes sense to publish a single stripped down CPA or is that really something that has to be industry-specific. Regards, Marty <
