Hi,
I have a small comment on the requirements as well.

One requirement should be that the language/protocol is specified 
clearly enough, with enough simplicity, to easily achieve 
interoperability between vendors.

I think we have all seen protocols where interoperability is a nightmare 
because there are literalyl hundreds of optional features, not clearly 
specified or so complex that no vendor implements it the same as another.
