Joe

As you know ISO is top of the tree when it comes to recognised standards organisations, and that's no disrespect to OASIS.  I know from my own experience that non-techie end-users and particularly election officials and politicians are far more willing to ask for ISO compliance in products and systems than other standards compliance. Mainly because they've heard of ISO and not the others and they understand its reputation.  So with our main aim now of getting global adoption of EML we stand a better chance with the ISO mark than without it.  Also getting EML into ISO will put it on the same level as other standards required for e-voting, eg security, and thus make it easier to set up accreditation schemes for e-voting solutions.

Some OASIS standards have already made it to ISO eg ebxml so the organisation itself recognises the value of  the ISO mark.

Hi, thanks for taking good notes; sorry that I couldn't attend.

I was wondering if someone could explain the motivation for ISO
standardization to me.  I'm not trying to upset the ship, I'm just not
clear on what part of "going ISO" we are interested in.  Is it having
a wider constituency?  is it a more rigorous standards process?

thanks, Joe
