Subject: Participation
Hello, I am thrilled to see this effort come to fruition. As a researcher in the area of cyberpsychology, I have been interested in the psychology of computer-mediated communication (CMC) for some time. I believe this will be an important step in the evolution of CMC. In the course of online therapy, one of the biggest hurdles is the unavailability of nonverbal communication (an important feature of psychotherapy). So, we must rely on the written word and try to decipher what the patient is *really* saying. This can be difficult and sometimes results in miscommunication. HumanML will help clarify human emotions in CMC. Also, I should mention that as a member of the executive board of the International Society for Mental Health Online ( http://www.ismho.org ), I would like to offer help in any way we can. Many of our members have rich experience in trying to communicate with people on a *hyperpersonal* level online, and we will gladly contribute to HumanML in any way we can. Sincerely, Richard A.
