And of course, since Prueitt is also reasoning analogically (ecological information systems are all metaphorical) one might want to compare his statement "an emergent electromagnetic field is formed by assembling a subset of the basic elemental processes according to situational influences at that loci" with the XSLT transformation processes. It is likely that the precise analogical models are not as important or revealing as the concept of transformation itself, a concept for which XML plus Schema and assertion tools can work with well. Consider that selecting the correct transformation can be rule-driven, these are controls, and controls are emergent (using processes to create a choice of choices). Don't think a "reeeeal" long time about that. ;-) Many of our early tools will likely only work at gross levels of communication and require substantial localization for precision.
