Subject: [humanmarkup-comment] source code from my conference paper in 2001

Defined as:
Context
A collection of named variables and vectors which can be used to represent
state and process information.
The collections are treated as if sets, with permiability. (not nec crisp)
Set membership is decided by the assertions generated in the
situation-perception process.
A context might be seen as a graph which references a particular subset of
the universe of variable names supported by the system.

The identity or name of the variables used in a context is a function of the
nature of the input to the system’s “causality model”, which are a
collection of “production” statements which act like the situation context’s
receptors. (ie they are like input triggers)

A more detailed explanation of how situated context processing occurs in the
system is presented in the spoken narration of this presentation.
Contexts are created dynamically by the system, in response to inputs such
as user queries. Used with Topic Map <scopes> to search WWW objects for
those semantically similar to the query sought.

By “causality model” (notice the quote marks) I am being a bit colloquial,
and I mean that the production system items are used to "effect"
"causality", which is what modelling is about isnt it.

For example, there is no gravity in a computer, but a model of gravity such
as the standard gravitational attraction equation can be used to "affect"
"modelled objects" in such a "modelled gravitation field".
In a similar way, both the permiability and other factors of biological cell
walls, and of "electromagnetic affect" (in various, possibly simultaneous,
scales of reference) can be modelled as affecting or producing or causing X,
Y, Z; where the production system asserts the (modelled) X, Y, Z.
An unsupported glass "drops" to the floor, because modelled gravity,
modelled by productions, assert that unsupported mass X, changes location
with time according to the gravitation equation used by the production.

The glass itself is part of the context of contexts, as is the change in its
support. The change in support itself is the A which implies B, "falling
behaviour". (A implies B, simplest production)

Concrete minded individuals will take the use of only equation based (ie
mathematical) implicature to be what I am saying. They would be wrong and
cant see past the end of their prejudice. Productions do not require
equations. Furthermore, productions can model networks and also artificial
neurons.

the preceding executable SVG animation of a de Bono diagram, has embedded in
it RDF "code" which represents metadata. There are two kinds of metadata
explicitly present there.
The first kind of metadata can be obtained by a parser which locates the
attribute values of the SVG code. SVG values such as the X,Y positions of
various things, and can be used to infer, using even algebraic (such as
Java) conditionals, let alone productions, that A is "above" B, and most of
the important VISIBLE aspects in the picture. This kind of computing was
thoroughly explained in my WROX book XML Meta Data.
The second kind of metadata is references to non-static, in this case
temporally visible aspects of the picture.

This is part of my metaphor series of posts. In another posting we will be
looking at deBono's appeal to socalled "naive physics" as a tacit dimension
of his work , called Atlas of Management Thinking. I think that that
discussion will be interesting and informative and show how diagrams can be
used to intuitively convey culturally/socially held taciticity. This
phenomena can be captured somewhat into computers and used as a means of
conveying / signifying social/cultural info between humans.

[David]
The SVG animated diagram above is part of the explanation of how "naive
physics" implements the tacit dimension. Interested readers will find
further explanation forthcoming in my metaphor/analogy series.

In addition to the RDF metadata (above), there is also DAML coded HML, CYC
and IEEE's SUMO. These are explained in the next postings, and how they
contribute to the "understanding" (semantics, sense making) of the CONTENT
of the diagram. {not just its visual explicates).

stay tuned
