Subject: Re: [legalcitem-technical] Question about identifiers and multiple documents
Hi,
Following our discussions about the Fundamental Requirements document I remembered a citation format from UK legislation that might cause some problems. At the moment the definitions assume that a citation is a reference to a single document or a fragment thereof. However, there are situations where citations can be to groups of documents, something along the lines of Acts x, y and z shall be referred to (in this document or in others) as the "Alphabet acts", See http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1996/56/section/578 for a real example (also note that the definition gets amended just to be more confusing!) I'm guessing that this is something that happens for other legal documents too? Are these types of citations outside the scope of these requirements or do we need to find a way to include them?

Like Grant, I am now confused about identifiers and where they fit.
In our definitions of the terms we're using, does a 'reference' contain an 'identifier'? Or does a resolver take a reference and use it to find or construct an identifier that it then uses to navigate to the document?
Perhaps laying out the relationships of these pieces will help us answer some of these open questions.
