Subject: Comments on ODF Acc Guidelines

Here are my comments on the ODF Acc
Guidelines. I reviewed using Dave Pawson's 9/28 draft.
- Consider adding Hiro and me as authors
(at the top) and Pete as a contributor (Appendix E; Hiro already listed)
for the section on subtables.
- The subtables section is not in the
TOC
- The subtables section is labeled both
3.2.6 and 3.3
- In the subtable section should we say
that we are recommending the deprecation of table:is-subtable?
- There is a lot of minor editing that
could be done but I assume a writer will fix all of that.
- Section 1.4: Yes. I would
like to see an "Are you sure?" box appear if someone attempts
to insert a graphic without alt text. Maybe this would be considered
too harsh. But that could be mitigated by having a "Don't show
me this again." checkbox. Alt text is also covered in 3.2.
- Section 3.1.2: Do we cover providing
structure (and thus access to the semantics) through the grouping of non-text
objects? I do see this mentioned in 3.2.4.
- Section 3.1.3: ODF has many table attributes
besides headers. I think the list is: caption, summary, row and col
description. Should they be discussed?
- Section 3.2: Consider explaining the
difference between alt text and descriptions and when to use each. Explain
when not to use alt text. Maybe this is covered well enough in later
sections.
- Section 3.2.4: Isn't alt text
and title the same thing? Alt text is encoded in svg:title. svg:title
is then used as an accessible name.
- Section 4.2.5: Mention formulas?
- Formula encoding is also a consideration
for import/export. There is currently an interop problem which Hiro
has identified.
- It's not clear to me why the content
in Appendix D is separated from the rest. Maybe the heading text
needs to be reworded and an intro added?
- Section D2: Should it be svg:title
instead of office:title?
- Section D2 (second paragraph): Shouldn't
title text map to accessible name (not accessible description)? See
line 985 in section D.1 of Dave's 9/28 draft.
