Subject: RE: [plcs-dex] Application domain and Life cycle stage

Title: RE: [plcs-dex] Application domain and Life cycle stage

Sean,
This may be dependent on which Customer we are dealing with. I would support the 15288 life cycle as the most practical overall BUT would also like consideration for the MOD CADMID cycle [as per the PLCS CM AAM - therefore the AP239 standard which utilized DS 05-57 and the US ANSI/EIA 649. An interesting view is illustrated on the MoD AMS web site http://www.ams.mod.uk/ams/content/docs/wip/lifecycl/alternat.pdf.

Subject: [plcs-dex] Application domain and Life cycle stage

A Part view definition has a context. This is classified in two ways: as
Application domain (Digital mock-up, mechanical, electrical,
production_assembly, maintenance, etc) and as product life cycle stage
(specification, design, manufacture, usage, retirement, etc).

The importance of these classifications is that the different view
definitions can define different product structures.

Two questions arise: what is the PLCS preferred set of classifications
in each of these two classes? And how should the these be applied and
when. For example, if the view used in a task specification is "design
stage" and "Mechanical", how will this be compatible with operational
feedback which is done at the "usage stage" in the "maintenance view".

One suggestion is to use the life cycle stages in 15288.

All business users should reply.
