Subject: Invitation to Participate in ANSI Santa Fe Group Data Breaches Project

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is exploring the feasibility of commencing a new workshop by ANSI’s Identity Theft Prevention and Identity Management Standards Panel (IDSP), in partnership with The Santa Fe Group and its Shared Assessments Program® Healthcare Working Group.  The workshop will focus on the financial impact of the unauthorized access of protected health information (PHI) and personally identifiable information (PII).  Many of you have previously expressed interest in participating in such a workshop.

The proposed project will identify risk levels, standards, guidelines, and best practices that organizations holding PHI/PII can use to help them make risk of harm assessments needed to comply with data breach notification requirements.  The work will culminate in the publication of a white paper that presents the consensus-based findings and recommendations, a release event at the National Press Club and a Congressional staff briefing on Capitol Hill.

Some 86 organizations and individuals with expertise in privacy and security already have indicated potential interest in participating in this project (see attached list).  Rick Kam, President and Co-founder of ID Experts, will chair the workshop.

Our goal is to launch the project as soon as possible in 2011 and to complete the work within a few months time.  A kick-off meeting of an advisory committee is envisioned to provide organization and guidance for the work.  Thereafter, working groups would meet via a series of teleconferences to provide expertise and content for the white paper.

At this time we need to gauge what level of financial support exists to make this project financially viable.  Can you please respond by reply e-mail no later than January 31st as to what level of support we can expect from you / your organization.

(Please put an “X” to indicate your financial commitment):

  1. ___ Premium sponsor ($25K) – provides major underwriting with associated public recognition at events plus other benefits (exclusive - only 2 available - see attached flyer)
  2. ___ Partner sponsor ($5K) – entitles organization to a seat on the workshop advisory committee plus other recognition benefits (unlimited number available -- see attached flyer)
  3. ___ Participant ($1K) – a one-time fee for each participating individual to enable the project (does not apply to premium and partner sponsors)
  4. ___ None of the above

We are eager to start work, so we look forward to hearing from you without delay!   Thanks.

Best regards,
