Subject: RE: [pmrm] OASIS wiki for the PMRM TC?
Sounds like a useful tool for us to have. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Willett [mailto:mwillett@nc.rr.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2011 4:07 PM To: pmrm@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: [pmrm] OASIS wiki for the PMRM TC? Below is the thorough response from OASIS/Admin concerning a potential PMRM TC "wiki". Read. Decide if we want to proceed. Michael -----Original Message----- From: Robin Cover [mailto:robin@oasis-open.org] Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2011 1:33 PM To: Michael Willett Cc: Robin Cover; Dee Schur Subject: Re: FW: OASIS Wiki? 1. The PMRM TC can indeed have a TC Wiki, and all you need to do is ask me to have one activated, and the Webmaster will do most of the techie work. When he's done, I'll add a proper header to the Front Page, and you will be all set!! 2. There's a note in the TC's archive about the Wiki option, but it's buried by now [2] 3. Here's a list of OASIS TC Wikis as of now: OASIS Wiki List http://wiki.oasis-open.org/ 4. As to general Wiki usage policy, it's presented here Wiki use policy http://tools.oasis-open.org/ It's important to read this policy document (top to bottom) because it explains how not to leave work stranded in the Wiki - there's a "TC Repository" connection (i.e., TC Kavi Document Repository) 5. Similar to #4 above, here's the boilerplate text that will appear on your Wiki site when activated: NOTE: This wiki is provided by the OASIS standards consortium as a collaborative tool for members of the [PMRM] Technical Committee, who are permited to post to these pages. As this is an official workspace of the TC, the OASIS IPR Policy and other OASIS rules apply to its use. To learn more about the work of the TC, send a comment, or join this effort, visit the [PMRM] TC homepage. Wiki pages are transient documents, so intermediate edits may not be saved. TC members should move all permanent work and stable artifacts to the TC's document repository, where the archival work product of the TC also can be viewed by the public. [Link: http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/documents.php?wg_abbrev=pmrm ] 6. A "Wiki" is essentially just a scratch space where the TC members can write collaboratively, and the texts are automatically revisioned, so anyone can easily see what someone else wrote. You can inspect the other OASIS TC Wikis to see how other TCs are using Wikis, for various kinds of work where having a "live" space is easier and more efficient than passing around documents that are revisioned initially in Kavi as static documents. A wiki page is locked when someone is editing (to prevent collisions), but it can be updated more or less "in real time". A Wiki is not a good publication venue for fixed (static) documents, for example, white papers, published technical reports, or anything that is understood to be in final form already. And finally, the TC would want to make sure that any material incorporated into a Wiki is appropriately used; broadly speaking, anything uploaded to Kavi or SVN or a Wiki is considered a "contribution" so anyone putting content in those publication areas should be the content owner or have permission from the content owner to upload some document. In general, we don't encourage uploading of documents not authored by Members of the TC because of IPR concerns, which need to be followed with respect to the OASIS IPR Policy and TC Process (Policy) documents. In any case, let me know if the TC wants a Wiki. We can activate it for you! - Robin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this mail list, you must leave the OASIS TC that generates this mail.
