Subject: Re: [regrep-comment] RIM 2.0 Specification - question on User class&address attribute

Hi Mark,

The rationale behind requiring a PostalAddress but having all its
attributes as optional is that we wanted to make sure that
there was a PostalAddress of some form or another. We wanted to be less
prescriptive on which exact attributes would
makeup the PostalAddress. The reason for being less prescriptive is that
PostalAddresses tend to vary quite a bit with regional differences.
We provided the most likely attributes that may be used. However, we
expect that any other attributes we did not provide for
a specific region can be covered by the Slot based attribute extension
mechanism in RIM 2.0.

So in summary, we want to make sure that a User or an Organization have
some sort of a PostalAddress. We do not wish to dictate what is
the exact makeup of that PostalAddress.

Please let us know if this rationale does not provide a satisfactory
explanation to your question.
