Subject: RE: [regrep] What is an ebXML Registry

And some times it dips too...

IMHO if we are able tu manage business information surely we are able to manage several other kind of information, and applications. But first of all I think that the ebXML Registry specifications could be focused and specialised for business objects (like CPP/A, BP, CC for example).

"Federated, Secure (business) Information Management"

Joe,

Sorry - but you are wandering here IMHO!

It's a bird, its a plane, its a hovercraft, and it floats too.

Bottom line is ebXML registry has become very multi-faceted.

If we're talking about the original ebXML vision for the registry - that is much clearer.

But today - it is being purposed widely.

I think we need to be true to the original focus, while admitting that people are finding, and will continue to find cool and interesting new applications.

BTW - look at what UNCEFACT have
asked for - I think we see then the "pure"
focus on ebusiness information alignment.

Cheers, DW

I agree with the definition that Farrukh presents below. I see it as
being inline with the definition at the top of our current RS 3.0 spec:

"An ebXML Registry is an information system that securely manages any
content type and the standardized metadata that describes it."

So I don't believe that a goal of ebXML Registry is to define a content
management system - rather, the goal is to provide a foundational
capability that can be leveraged for content management, as well as
event registration and management, as well as metadata management, as
well as Web Services registration, maintainence and discovery, as well
as....
