Subject: [security-jc] Meeting
Attached is a proposed meeting agenda and call in information. Be hearing you at noon. Phil Griffin Proposed Agenda for Thursday, December 12, 2002 12 noon EST SJC Meeting Dial-in Number: 888-742-8686 Conference ID: 5250215 Call sponsor - Waveset Technologies 1. Call meeting to order 2. Introductions 3. Darran Rolls to please take meeting minutes 4. Approve proposed agenda 5. I've been notified that some members of the Web Services Remote Portal (WSRP) TC are defining how role information is passed, and that there is also role-related work going on in WSS and the SSTC. Concern was raised that the SJC had some sort of intention to create a common definition of role and that somehow the SJC would interfere with the work of the TCs. Suggest that the SJC chair or the TAB liaison take an action item to send a note to this TC or to the chairs list noting that the SJC has no authority of this sort and no intention of directing the work of any TC, nor in interfering in the work of the TCs in any way. 6. Election of a new chair. We agreed that the term of tenure for the SJC chair would be limited to six months, and the term of the current chair expires soon after this meeting. Note that Darran offered some time ago to serve as chair, but may have changed his mind. The composition of the group has also changed. Question: Do we want to spend meeting time electing a new chair or should I issue a call for nominations to the list and collect ballots there? Some other process? 7. TAB update - Krishna/Karl - Issue of purpose and direction of SJC. Following text outlines the issue and the position of the TAB. - TAB position At the OASIS TAB meeting today we discussed, among other things, the Security JC scope and charter. It was pointed out that the OASIS TC Process makes no provision for a JC having a charter beyond simply coordinating the activities of the TCs, and additionally that the Process says that a JC will have no deliverables. So while the TAB thinks that the JC has identified some valuable topics to pursue (security common glossary, architecture model, etc.) and that this work is important and needs to be done, the TAB feels that the JC is the wrong place to be doing this work. The TAB suggests that interested members of the JC form a TC to do this work and that the JC restrict itself to providing a forum for the various TCs to communicate and coordinate their activities with each other. Krishna and I would be happy to further explain the TAB's feelings on this at the next JC meeting. - Other TAB issues 8. Update on XML Conference and Exposition 2002 in Baltimore - Karl 9. Update on coordinated SJC member F2F meetings from Dee Schur, OASIS Here is a review of the events that I mentioned. We have very good relationships with both of the first two and they have agreed to supply OASIS with meeting space. XML Web Services One in Santa Clara, 3-6 March-- http://www.xmlconference.com/santaclara/ Web Services Edge in Boston, 18-20 March-- http://www.sys-con.com/webservicesedge2003east/ Software Development was mentioned as well. We have worked with them in the past and I would be happy to ask them about meeting space--see http://www.sdexpo.com/2003/west/, SD Expo West in Santa Clara on 24-28 March. Lastly, RSA holds a security conference that has a wonderful reputation and I have recently made contact with the organizer. See: http://www.rsaconference.net/rsa2003/launch.asp?gotomenu=3. PKI has exhibited in the past. Does this hold interest for anyone? 10. Other business 11. Adjourn
