Subject: RE: [tgf] Request for comments on UK Information Infrastructure paper.
Nig Sorry for the late response. I find it very difficult to provide constructive comments on this document for two reasons. First it is very thin on content and appears to be nothing more than a few “bullet” points. It needs a lot more flesh and clarity about how it fits with the other components of the overall ICT Strategy. And this leads to my second point, it says up front that it supports the overall Information Architecture set out in the ICT Strategy. Well there’s virtually nothing in the new Strategy about IA so again it’s difficult to see the whole picture and understand what this document is trying to cover and how it supports the overall IA. Seems like a bit of uncoordinated document production going on. Having authored these sort of documents before it is very important to show how each component fits into the whole picture so people can understand the context and relationships of any individual piece. So my overall comment is, which you may not wish to pass on, there’s a lot more work required before meaningful comments can be made. BTW having said the above, I endorse all that Peter and Colin have said. John From: Greenaway Nigel [mailto:Nig.Greenaway@uk.fujitsu.com] Thank you both for your comments – I will pass these on. The document is one of a series being developed in parallel by the Information domain that supports the UK Cross-Government Architecture. The slow progress of the set is due to the work being done on a voluntary basis during a time of cost constraints and the issues around finalising and publishing documents whilst we wait for the new Government to emerge fully from its project moratorium review pahse and start setting policies. The new ICT strategy should be released soon and that should spark a number of consultations and pulications. What is the timeline for this document? I notice the draft is from June last year and there is no indication of a deadline for comments, etc. This would be useful to know whether further details are possible/desired in the timeframe imparted. Cheers, Peter From: Greenaway Nigel [mailto:Nig.Greenaway@uk.fujitsu.com] Hi All, Some time back I circulated the attached paper for UK Government as part of one of our debates on the primer:- <<20101117 - Infrastructure Requirements for UK Public Sector Information Architecture.doc>> The authors were happy for it to be shared with you and are now asking for comments on the paper, so I would appreciate it if you could let me know what you think of it and any suggestions for its improvement TIA Nig Nig Greenaway Government Division FUJITSU Lovelace Road, Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 8SN Tel: +44 (0) 843 354 5637 Internal: 7302 5637 Mob : +44 (0) 7867 833147 Internal: 7383 3147 E-mail: nig.greenaway@uk.fujitsu.com ==== |
