Balisage, held every August in Montréal, is the premier conference
for markup experts.  This year, it will be preceded by a one-day
symposium on a topic of interest to everyone involved in the
creation and maintenance of industrial XML applications:
versioning.  UBL will be one of the efforts discussed at the
symposium.

Note that the August 2008 UBL TC meeting will be held the week
before Balisage in the same location.

The programs have been released for "Balisage 2008: The Markup
Conference" (to be held in Montreal from 12 to 15 August, 2008)
and for the "International Symposium on Versioning XML
Vocabularies and Systems" (to be held in the same location on
Monday 11 August).

Topics include resource-oriented architectures, ontology design,
schema mashups, constraint management, real-time generation of
topic maps, secure publishing for social networks, managing
overlapping annotations over the same primary data, XML
pipelining, the social limitation of interoperability in digital
libraries, implementation of XSD 1.1 conditional-type assignment,
and a host of others. Several slots have been left open for
late-breaking news.

Speakers from the business and government include: BEA Systems,
IBM, INRIA, Intel, Red Hat, SAIC, Sun, the World Wide Web
Consortium, and the Y-12 National Security Complex . Academic
speakers represent Acadia University, INRIA, the University of
Bielefeld, the University of Bologna, Brown University, and the
University of Illinois.
