Subject: RE: [ws-dd] Indications of Candidacy for TC Chair(s)

I am interested in serving as a co-chair of the WS-DD TC. As requested by Mary, I have included a brief biographical statement below.

Best regards,

            -- Toby

Toby Nixon is Senior Standards Program Manager in the Windows Device and Storage Technologies group at Microsoft, representing Microsoft in organizations and industry alliances regarding network-connected devices. Toby currently serves as vice chair of the Steering Committee of UPnP Forum, and previously served as chair of the Steering Committee and chair of the Technical Committee. Toby also serves on the board of directors of UPnP Implementers Corporation, which promotes UPnP technology and manages the UPnP device certification program, and chairs its Compliance Committee. During his fifteen years at Microsoft, Toby has worked in areas including internet telephony and multimedia communication, mobile data services, and computer-telephony integration. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Voice on the Net Coalition, a past member of the board of the International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium, and represented Microsoft in the Voice Over IP Forum (later merged into IMTC) and the Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum. For nine years prior to joining Microsoft, Toby was Principal Engineer and Standards Committee Representative for Hayes Microcomputer Products, then the leading manufacturer of modems for personal computers. While at Hayes, Toby chaired committees on computer-modem interfaces in the Telecommunications Industry Association and the International Telecommunication Union, and served as a project editor in ISO/IEC JTC1 SC6. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, and holds several patents in the area of computer communications. Toby served five years as a member of the Washington state legislature, where he chaired the committee overseeing the computers and networks of the legislature, and focused on issues such as government operations and accountability, election systems, technology, energy management, and transportation policy. Toby also currently serves as president of the Washington Coalition for Open Government, a non-profit organization promoting public access to government records and meetings. To all prospective members of the Web Services Discovery and Web Services

Devices Profile (WS-DD) TC:

The first order of business at the inaugural TC meeting will be to elect a

chair (or two co-chairs). All individuals interested in serving as a Chair,

or in nominating another individual for the position of Chair, are welcome

to make that candidacy known, prior to the meeting, by posting a note to the

TC's e-mail list expressing their interest and/or intent along with a brief

statement of their qualifications. However, this is not required, and the

committee will be open to nominations from any qualified persons at its

first meeting as well.

Regards,

Mary
