Sounds like a good suggestion. 

I looked at OO briefly, but it is not like Xinclude. It seems to me that
creating a master document and slave docs will be the other route (have
not tested my hypothesis whether this will completely work, just read
some docs :-D). 

I prefer to keep schemas externally and include them in the docs just
before we go to publication manually.
