Subject: RE: [xdi] Proposed additional X3 representation format, or a replacement for X3 Whitespace

Good points, Markus. I’m behind whatever you and Bill (and whomever else cares about an X3 JSON serialization format) come up with. Just document your conclusions on the X3 wiki page (http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xdi/X3Format) and ping the list, as that’s our placeholder for the spec, which right now is #2 in line behind the Addressing and RDF Graph Model spec.

Hi Bill,

We have considered (and implemented) a JSON serialization format (called "XDI/JSON") before, you can see it at:
http://graceland.parityinc.net/xdi-converter/XDIConverter

The difference is that it explicitly puts artificial keys named "subjects", "predicates" and "references" into the JSON data structures.

But I think your approach is much better and definitely feels more natural to JSON people. The only artificial construct you are using is the "_context" key, but I think that's acceptable. So I'm all for deprecating the old "XDI/JSON" format and using your "X3J" format instead!

I've edited http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xdi/X3Format to add text proposing an X3 representation that is directly in JSON as opposed to similar to JSON.  Given the broad adoption of JSON and the usefulness of this I'm seeing in my work I wanted to share it with the TC.  JSON format is still rough but works. I will add formatting rules section this weekend.
