Subject: Re: [xmile] macros + filters

Hi,

I was wondering if Karim or anyone else had examples of functionality in any of the common SD programs that would need iteration or recursion in macros?

I've mostly been thinking of them as simpler examples (like the log and smooth example in the spec).

The allocp (and related functions) in Vensim come to mind.  Can these be implemented effectively with a macro?

How about cycletime in ithink?  (I've had trouble translating that to Forio).

Hi Steve (& Karim),

I apologize if I've been combative.  I would like us to end up with a product we are all proud of that encourages innovation and sharing in the field, and I worry about pushing through a v1 'just to have something' will leave us in a position we regret in the not-too-distant future.  There are a lot of strong feelings & personalities in the room, and its hard not to get worked up, but I will try harder.

yours,
Bobby

I understand they were carried over from the pre-OASIS draft, but
there was not much discussion of the details of the macro
specification in this TC in the meetings I attended, and I haven't
seen mention of them in the meeting notes of meetings I've missed.  I
certainly could have missed something, tho!  Please point me at any
meeting notes I missed, thanks.

There are 5 active members of the TC that are technically-minded that
I am aware of (you, me, Billy, Will, Bob), and the majority of them
have been engaging with my emails.  I disagree with you here - I think
the official, public TC email list is a perfectly valid place for me
to raise concerns, and it is disconcerting to me that you are
discouraging public discussion.

I will certainly reiterate my concerns at the meeting on Friday, but I
don't understand why you think I should keep them private until then.

yours,
Bobby
