Minimal Interface for Prototype XML.org Registry and

<h1>Minimal Interface for Prototype XML.org Registry and
Repository</h1>

<p>Version 1, 12 December 1999</p>

<p>This document describes a minimal interface suitable
for the planned prototype XML.org registry and repository
implementations discussed in Philadelphia in December 1999.
This interface would be a subset of
any more elaborate interface.</p>

<h2>Interface From the User's Point of View</h2>

<p>From the user's point of view the interface consists
of</p>

<ol>
 <li><p>a <b>home page</b> (not specified here)
with <b>a link to</b>
</p></li>
<li><p>a <b>list of subject classifications and the entities
available under each classification</b>, with a link for each
entity that resolves to
</p></li>
<li><p>a <b>list of related data</b> (to use the ISO/IEC 11179
term), which has a link to each item of related data
</p></li>
</ol>

<h2>Underlying Documents</h2>
<p>The markup for all of these pieces except for the home page
has been specified already. See the OASIS Regrep TC
home page for an overview; the following links are for the
DTDs and sample files in the member's-only section:
</p>

<ul>

<li><p><a href="http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/regrep/class.dtd">class.dtd</a>, the DTD for a
Classification Scheme - this is the markup for the list
of subject classifications. An example (using NAICS)
is <a href="http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/regrep/contents.txt">contents.txt</a>, which shows
the classifications and what registered entities are
available within each classification. I suggest
that for the prototype implementations we can use the
classification scheme currently shown at the XML.org site,
but I haven't constructed a marked-up version of that,
preferring to leave it to the person to be hired to do the
coding of the metadata for the registered entities.
<b>NOTE</b> that this is in XML; for online use we need
an HTML transformation of it; the same is true for for
the list of related data.
</p></li>

<li><p><a href="http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/regrep/rrdtddoc.htm">rrdtddoc.htm</a>, documentation
for the set of DTDs used for ISO/IEC 11179 registry metadata;
I won't list all the pieces of this DTD set here. I envision
the list of related data as a transformation of the format
shown in <a href="http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/regrep/dbrelated.txt"></a>, which is for the Docbook DTD.
Note that I have not marked up all the pieces of the Docbook
documentation (see the XML comment about two-thirds of the
way through the file).
</p></li>
</ul>

<p>And that's it, a real simple interface that uses the
markup already specified.
</p>

</body>
</html>
