EPIC DATA PREVIEWS B2B MOBILE PRODUCT USING WEBMETHODS B2BI
SOLUTIONS
First Wireless Implementation of RosettaNet Partner Interface
Processes
San Francisco, California and Fairfax, Va.--October 10, 2000--Epic
Data International Inc. (TSE symbol: EKD), a leading supplier of wireless
solutions for enterprise applications and e-business collaboration, and
webMethods (Nasdaq: WEBM), the leading provider of business-to-business
integration (B2Bi) solutions, will preview Epic Data’s B2B
Mobile™ product at the RosettaNet e-Concert meeting this
week.
B2B Mobile will extend business-to-business applications to mobile
devices, enabling companies gain a dramatic increase in supply chain
visibility and effective management of supply chain events through
wireless connectivity. Managers can, for example, check price and
availability of parts from a supplier, place orders, and check order
status, using Symbol Technologies Spectrum24 Wireless LAN connectivity
and wireless handheld computers.
B2B Mobile is developed using Epic Data’s innovative eXpresso product.
eXpresso is a Java and XML-based wireless application development
environment and application programming interface for creating and
enabling wireless enterprise applications for web-based distributed
system architectures. eXpresso applications are portable across ‘thin’
and ‘thick’ client devices (including Win CE, Palm OS®, DOS and
microJava™ based) and back-end server operating systems (Windows® NT,
UNIX and Linux), without modification.
The B2B Mobile product demonstration integrates Epic Data’s eXpresso Java
and XML-based wireless application development platform with webMethods
B2B Server to enable
the first ever wireless implementation of RosettaNet Partner Interface
Processes. RosettaNet Partner Interface Processes (PIPs) define business
processes between supply-chain partners, providing the models and
documents for the implementation of standards.
“The demonstration of B2B Mobile at RosettaNet’s eConcert illustrates the
value of wireless connectivity for B2B e-commerce, by providing managers
with continuous connectivity to the supply chain,” saidCharles Allen,
vice president, Industry Solutions, webMethods, Inc. “Through wireless
B2B applications, managers can instantly receive event notifications and
quickly respond to exception situations, check product availability,
obtain price quotes, and monitor trading partner requests. AsRosettaNet's
first solutions partner, webMethodshas proven its position as a leader in
RosettaNet implementations. Working with Epic Data to develop a wireless
RosettaNet application further illustrates the flexible innovative nature
of the webMethods B2Bi solutions suite.”
“WebMethods is a leading provider of technology and vision for
business-to-business integration. Epic Data is extremely pleased to
collaborate with webMethods in demonstrating B2B Mobile at RosettaNet’s
eConcert. WebMethods’ B2Bi solution suite is a perfect fit for Epic
Data’s eXpresso wireless application development platform. Both eXpresso
and the WebMethods B2Bi Server are based on Java and XML architecture.
This greatly simplifies application integration for RosettaNet, as well
as other B2B frameworks,” said Dr. Jacek Lipowski, Chef Technology
Officer, Epic Data Inc.
