Title:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Optio Software Announces Support for Open Applications Group Standard to Drive XML Standards for Integration and Collaboration Platforms Partnership with OAGI Allows Optio to Help Define Architectural Standards for Integration and Communication Platforms Within and Between Enterprises

ATLANTA, March 08, 2001 - Optio Software Inc. (Nasdaq NM: OPTO), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure software that enables organizations to communicate and collaborate with 100 percent of their trading partners and systems, today announced that it has joined Open Applications Group, Inc. (OAGI) to further drive a universal communication standard between enterprises and trading partners to ensure consistent business processes between businesses and throughout an enterprise. Optio intends to fully support the Open Applications Group Interface Specification (OAGIS) for its entire family of e.Com products including e.ComIntegrate, e.ComEngine, e.ComPresent and e.ComPayments. Recognizing the importance of the need for reasonable and efficient industry standards, for over a year, Optio's development efforts have incorporated and supported the Open Applications Group Interface Specification (OAGIS).

"We are excited to have Optio join the Open Applications Group consortium," said David Connelly, president and CEO, Open Applications Group, Inc. "Since mid-2000, Optio Software has demonstrated its commitment to OAGI by developing solutions to be OAGIS compliant providing interoperability with other XML vocabularies and accelerating the integration of OAGIS standards throughout its enterprise-wide applications. We look forward to Optio's participation in developing additional standards to improve interfaces between open platforms."

"Our customers and partners are the ultimate winners by our support of initiatives like OAGIS," stated Daryl Hatton, chief technology officer for Optio. "Adopting industry-standard and best practices-based platforms for interoperability is essential for every solutions vendor to reduce or eliminate unnecessary costly barriers as companies integrate purchased applications with their internal legacy systems. As multi-vendor implementations are the "norm" today, the OAGIS model provides a more-efficient implementation strategy for all concerns."
