Subject: [announce] Recordare Editions Available for FreeHand MusicPad Pro

RECORDARE EDITIONS AVAILABLE FOR FREEHAND MUSICPAD PRO

LOS ALTOS, CA (January 17, 2002) -- Recordare LLC, an Internet music software and publishing company, today announced that its upcoming MusicXML classical music editions will be available for the FreeHand MusicPad Pro.

FreeHand Systems is launching its MusicPad Pro product today at the NAMM show in Anaheim, California. The MusicPad Pro allows musicians to store up to 10,000 pages of music, markup or annotate music electronically by means of a stylus and touch screen display, and save those edits for future reference. Combined with a desktop or laptop computer and software provided by FreeHand, musicians are able to translate sheet music from scanners, the Internet or music composition programs into the MusicPad Pro format for viewing.

"The FreeHand MusicPad Pro turns the promise of electronic music displays into reality," stated Michael Good, CEO of Recordare LLC. "No longer will online sheet music be limited to individual songs. Long compositions and orchestral parts now have a home with the MusicPad. Musicians no longer need to run their own print shop to make full use of online sheet music."

Recordare’s store for online sheet music will open in February with highlights from the classical song literature. The first Recordare™ Editions will include some of the greatest songs by Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, Fauré, Chausson, and Mahler.

Recordare also announced its plans to sell music editions from the Center for Computer Assisted Research in the Humanities (CCARH) at Stanford University. CCARH has built one of the world’s largest databases of classical music, including orchestral, choral, and chamber music by Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Vivaldi.

"MusicPad Pro shows great potential for making sizable repertories portable," said Eleanor Selfridge-Field, Consulting Professor of Music at Stanford University and Senior Research Associate at CCARH. "The user interface is thoughtfully designed. It permits graphical adaptations to suit individual tastes and performance situations. We are delighted to work with Recordare to make much of our MuseData archive available for MusicPad Pro."

Recordare’s MusicXML technology lets the music be sold in a wide variety of print, audio, and interactive formats. Recordare Editions will be available in print formats such as PDF and interactive formats such as MIDI to complement the FreeHand format.
