Corel(r) Smart Graphics Studio Wins Best New Technology Award at FOSE
2003

Corel(r) Smart Graphics Studio Takes Top Honors in the Best Electronic
Government Software Category

Ottawa, Canada - April 9, 2003 - Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: CORL, TSX:
COR) today announced that its upcoming product Corel Smart Graphics
Studio has been recognized by the editors at Government Computer News as
the best new electronic government software at FOSE 2003 (Federal Office
Systems Exhibition) in Washington, D.C.

The prestigious Best New Technology Awards are presented at FOSE and
recognize the best new IT products serving government. Products are
judged based on their value, innovation, features and relevance or
applicability in the federal government. FOSE is the largest information
technology exposition serving the government marketplace. It draws
thousands of high-level attendees from the military, civilian, state and
local agencies, along with suppliers to government, corporate,
education, and healthcare buyers.

This award sets the stage for the upcoming release of Corel Smart
Graphics Studio later this quarter. Corel Smart Graphics Studio is a
development platform designed to speed and simplify the creation of
SVG-based smart graphics - a new form of enterprise-class,
graphically-rich Web application. These solutions enable government and
enterprise customers to deliver information to users in a powerful and
compelling format by transforming XML and legacy data into dynamic and
interactive graphics. Corel Smart Graphics Studio helps government
customers improve communications by enabling the cost-effective delivery
of services and information to multiple stakeholders - whether the
information is being shared between agencies, with citizens or with
businesses.

"In addition to Corel Smart Graphics Studio winning best electronic
government software, two other Corel applications - WordPerfect Office
11 and Corel XMetaL 4 - were also selected as finalists for these
awards. This clearly demonstrates that Corel is recognized as a supplier
of essential tools for government," said Mark Hopkins, federal sales
manager for Corel. "These exceptional applications are the result of
Corel's ongoing commitment to provide our government customers with
tools that leverage XML to enhance their services, reduce costs and
enable them to become more citizen-centric."

"Corel understands the challenges government customers face in
delivering massive amounts of information inter-agency and to citizens.
We have focused on developing solutions specifically for e-government
that leverage the power of open standards to deliver the next generation
of government services," said Ian LeGrow, vice president of new ventures
for Corel. "Corel Smart Graphics Studio is providing government IT
managers and solution providers with new possibilities for Web
communications - leveraging SVG-based smart graphics as a powerful way
to deliver services and share information."

Corel Smart Graphics Studio reduces the cost and complexity of building
and delivering graphically-rich Web applications. Based on open
standards, solutions built with Corel Smart Graphics Studio are not
dependent on proprietary file formats and are highly interoperable with
existing tools and infrastructure. For more information on Corel Smart
