Smith, managing director of Techxas Ventures, has joined its board of directors. Smith joins board members John Shoemaker, former Vice President of Sun Microsystems' Enterprise Desktop and Systems Group, Christopher Baldwin, Charles River Ventures Partner, Basil Horangic, Austin Ventures Partner and John Derrick, CEO of Conformative Systems. At age 29, Smith founded and served as Chairman and CEO of Crossroads Systems (Nasdaq: CRDS), which he led through several rounds of venture and strategic financing to a successful IPO. In this role, Mr. Smith was an early pioneer in Storage Area Networks (SANs), which are industry standard solutions today. For his efforts, Smith was awarded the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Smith also served as managing director of Convergent Investors, where he oversaw investments in many early-stage technology companies. He began his career in electrical engineering and product development positions with the Technology Group of IBM Corporation. Smith earned a BSEE with honors from the University of Cincinnati and a MSEE from Purdue University. He has worked with portfolio companies like Chicory Systems, StoredIQ, Nanotechnologies, Inc. and TeraVicta Technologies.
