Layer 7 Selects Tarari to Power SecureSpan OX - First Turn-key XML DoS and XML IPS Solution for OEMs

Solution enables network security OEMs to provide customers with a fast path to XML security

Vancouver, BC – February 9, 2006 – Layer 7 Technologies today announced the general availability of SecureSpan OX, the first XML Denial of Service (DoS) and XML intrusion and threat prevention solution, specifically designed for network security OEMs. SecureSpan OX combines Tarari’s new XML Threat ManagerTM (XTM) acceleration technology with Layer 7 Technologies’ award-winning XML security software to provide OEMs with turn-key XML security for both new and existing networking product lines.

"Growth of XML in the enterprise requires mechanisms for validating the integrity of XML messages and protecting XML communications at wire speed," said Ronald Schmelzer, senior analyst at ZapThink. LLC. "The Layer 7 and Tarari solution is an advancement in securing XML, enabling OEMs to quickly add critical XML security and acceleration functionality to their product portfolios."

Analyst firm ZapThink predicts XML traffic will account for 48% of network traffic by the end of 2008. Driven by growth in SOA Web Services, XML data standardization and Web 2.0 technologies like AJAX, the increasing volume of network XML traffic will generate new security and performance issues for enterprise networks. Malformed XML can bring down modern applications and carry new kinds of attack vectors. Specialized parsing algorithms and, in high volume environments, dedicated silicon is required to adequately inspect and process XML.

"Layer 7 has created a product that will serve the network security OEM community well – with their expertise in XML security powered by our new Tarari XTM engine we expect many vendors to take up this fast-to-market option of adding XML security to their existing product lines,” said Randy Smerik, co-founder and  President/CEO Tarari. “No doubt Tarari’s XTM protection capabilities and streaming XML processing technology will be a boon to our mutual OEMs."

The SecureSpan OX solution offers OEMs turn-key XML DoS and intrusion and threat prevention in a 64-bit performance package. The offering is available in software or hardware and includes the industry’s first:

• seamless migration from software to hardware for added flexibility and future-proofing
• full message streaming for reduced latency and enhanced parser security
• wirespeed performance of up to 4 Gbps
• live XML threat signature updates for known attack vectors
• real-time adaptive XML anomaly detection for true IPS functionality
• 64-bit performance capabilities

Layer 7 will be demonstrating the solution at the RSA Conference from February 14-16th on the Tarari booth #240. To schedule a one-on-one demonstration, please contact Dimitri Sirota, VP Alliances for Layer 7 Technologies at dsirota@layer7tech.com.
