Subject: FW: [chairs] Symposium 2007 Update for TCs
BIAS TC members - Please see information below regarding the upcoming OASIS Symposium. We will be holding a face-to-face meeting on Wed, 18 April in conjunction with the symposium (see attached schedule). We will discuss details at our 21 Feb telecon. Also, our paper entitled "Biometrics in eB/eG and the role of the emerging BIAS standard" has been accepted and is tentatively scheduled to be presented on Monday, 16 April. In addition, Matt Swayze will be briefing our project on 13 April at the i-Pira Biometric Series in DC. Enclosed are a couple updates and reminders. Please pass along this information to your TC members or contact me directly with any questions or comments. ~EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION DISCOUNT ENDS 19 MARCH http://www.oasis-open.org/events/symposium/2007/registration.php ~HOTEL RATE DISCOUNT ENDS 14 MARCH http://www.oasis-open.org/events/symposium/2007/venue.php ~TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETINGS (TCs) We would like to thank all those TCs that are supporting the Symposium by holding committee meetings in conjunction with the event. We do hope this will again be a beneficial collaboration full of networking and communication not only for your TC, but between TCs. A complete list of TC meetings is attached and will be posted on the TC Symposium Information web page: http://www.oasis-open.org/events/symposium/2007/committee-meetings.php. ~TC LIGHTNING ROUNDS - DESIGNATE REPRESENTATIVE BY 1 APRIL As you all know, the Symposium will once again feature TC Lightning Round Updates. It will promise to be a great opportunity to educate the members, potential members, and the OASIS Board of Directors on what your TC has accomplished. Each TC should designate one representative to deliver a short (3-4 slides/2-3 minute) presentation. Once your TC has designated this representative, please forward their name and contact information directly to me at jane.harnad@oasis-open.org. If a TC representative will not be present at the event, we ask that you please provide materials for an OASIS staff person in advance. Note: A TC representative or OASIS staff person will speak on behalf of each OASIS TC during this Lightning Round Update. ~TWO SPECIAL BRIEFINGS FOR TC MEMBERS - ALL TC MEMBERS INVITED: TIPS FOR EFFECTIVELY CHAIRING AN OASIS COMMITTEE Sunday, 15 April - 4:00-5:30 OASIS staff will join new, existing, and prospective TC leaders to discuss issues surrounding TC Process, IPR, Kavi, membership, InterOps, publicity, certification and testing, and more. We'll share information about how to build consensus, promote adoption, cope with legal realities, grow support inside and outside OASIS, and take advantage of Consortium resources. All TC chairs, secretaries, and editors are strongly encouraged to attend this session. Anyone with an interest in a leadership role in a new or existing TC is also welcome. There is no cost to attend this workshop; however, advance sign-up is required. THINGS EVERY TC EDITOR SHOULD KNOW Sunday, 15 April - 2:00-3:30 Learn about the new OASIS specification templates, checklists, tools, and help pages - all designed to make your job as editor easier. Explore the OASIS publication rules, gain useful tips on best practices, and discover what it takes to get the TC Administration Seal of Approval on your Committee Drafts and Committee Specifications. This workshop is for anyone who authors, edits, or maintains TC specifications and other work products. ~BOOK DISPLAY AND RAFFLE There is a growing body of books that feature technical and executive-level information on OASIS Standards and specifications. The Symposium Book Table will showcase these books at a display in the registration area. This is not a book sale, but an opportunity to give attendees a first-hand look at the range of available titles. A handout listing all books, including information on purchasing options, will be provided. Books will be on display during the Symposium and raffled off to attendees at the end of the event. Authors, publishers, or collectors interested in donating books should contact events@oasis-open.org by 1 April. Symposium registrations are increasing daily. The early-bird discount ends 19 MARCH. Please help us continue the momentum by forwarding out notices to all TC members, prospects, and other related email lists. Please feel free to also post the Symposium web address (http://www.oasis-open.org/events/symposium/2007/index.php) on your company web site. If you have any lists or prospects that you would like us to forward information to, please send those ideas directly to me at jane.harnad@oasis-open.org. Thank you again for reviewing all the above and please feel free to call or email me directly with any questions. We look forward to seeing you in sunny San Diego!
