Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (CAMP-24) Assembly Template and Assembly trees should be analogous

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/CAMP-24?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=31699#action_31699 ]

Jacques Durand commented on CAMP-24:
-------------------------------------

About change#2:
- do we really want to mix in an AssemblyTemplate, the template data (App Comp Templates) with the dynamic data (assemblies generated from this template)? It might be more appropriate to keep this kind of linkage information between instances and templates in a separate log that would reflect the history of all operations performed on a Platform including possible modifications to a run-time (i.e. are we sure that assemblies associated with an AssemblyTemplate, are "pure" instantiations of this Template after a while? ). We had similar issue in CIMI and decided to not represent links from tempaltes to instances. Another reason to keep separate: export/import of templates.

About change#3:
- suggest we deal first with the more fundamental questions: is the difference between App Comp Template and Platform Comp Template justified? The line is blurred. A Platform acts as a container that could provide some chunks of applications (e.g. middleware) to Apps, but in the case of a bare platform. the same app components (templates) could belong to the Assembly Template?

>
> If you draw out an Assembly Template tree and it's corresponding Assembly tree for a simple application you will notice that the Application Component Templates do not contain any links to the Platform Component Templates or Application Component Templates that they depend upon but the Application Components do contain links to the Platform Components and Application Components. At the very least, this difference needs to be explained in the spec.
