RE: [cgmo-webcgm] setViewPort agenda item

Hi all,

I'm back in the office and catching up on email.

Lofton's memory is basically correct. The proposal is to change setViewPort
to setViewBox based on an analogy to the viewBox attribute in SVG. At the
time Lofton wasn't 100% sure if the analogy was appropriate and wanted
someone else to study it and weigh in. I volunteered for that task.

Lofton and I both agree that the term "viewport" in a CGM context denotes a
physical device. See for example the DEVICE VIEWPORT, DEVICE VIEWPORT
SPECIFICATION MODE, and DEVICE VIEWPORT MAPPING elements in CGM. What we're
both a little unsure of is whether "viewBox" is an appropriate term. I need
to study the SVG spec a little bit more to see if "viewBox" is appropriate
based on its meaning in SVG. It would needlessly confuse users if we used
the term "viewBox" differently than what it means in SVG.

Correct me if this is wrong, but I recall an email thread endorsing a 
proposal for "setViewBox", and the drafter of this functionality (Stuart) 
endorsed that change from "setViewPort".

So if Rob proposes an alternative, it would seem that the starting point is 
to change "setViewBox" to something else.

I don't have time to look up the thread right now -- let me know if I'm 
remembering wrong.
