Authentication beyond Username & Password

Dear CMIS Aficionados,

I would like to see in a future CMIS standard an update to the authentication. Our user whine for SSO (Single Sign On) and having to sign on every time via a username and password for CMIS is not really up to date anymore (Username Token Profile 1.1). Been aware that some vendors with a CMIS interface offer a way around this I would like to see a “standard” way to do this. I would propose something like in XAM (eXtensible Access Method, http://www.snia.org/sites/default/files/XAM_Arch_v1.01.pdf, SASL) or better SAML 2.0 (or later versions).

What do you think?

If there is a misunderstanding on my side I would be happy if someone shows me a way how to do a SSO with a CMIS 1.0 system (based on the standard and not some vendor extensions). I know that Alfresco has an “extension” in place as well as OpenText with their Domea CMIS implementation (But this requires me to go to the Domea System get the Token and then use it for a sign on).
