Here is the current content of the DITA TC Wiki page:

    Key Concepts to be defined in the Arch Spec

[Hackos, 8 June 2009] Here is a preliminary list of key concepts that could be defined in the Introduction to DITA section of the 1.2 Architectural Specifications. Please add to or modify the list a appropriate.

These first items are briefly described in the 1.1 specification:

    * Topics
    * Maps
    * Specialization
    * Structural vs. domain specialization
    * Generalization
    * Customization
    * Integration

These second items are possibilities for the 1.2 specification:

    * Content Reference (conref) mechanism)
    * Inheritance
    * Relationship Tables
    * DITAval
    * Keyref mechanism
    * Link processing
    * Constraint mechanism
    * Internal links
    * Multi-language support
    * Embedded maps
    * Processing roles

Please consider that some of the 1.1 concepts may not really be key concepts to understanding the DITA architecture
