Subject: Re: [dita-lightweight-dita] Does <data> need @href?

That may work as a general rule, in my case @value becomes this displayed text of a link using @href when @href is part of the <data> element.
@name is a proscribed list and acts as an information type marker, and some <data> elements can have all three attributes in them because of the use of @name.
I agree this may be an odd use for <data>, and is in part driven by "it has what I need", but I wanted something fairly easy and consistent for new DITA peeps to use.

What can an @href attribute accomplish that @name/@value cannot? I acknowledge that @href has processing implications in full DITA. If that's the driving requirement here, I can accept that. But (generally), if one can meet a requirement in Lw-DITA with more general/extensible markup (in this case, @name/@value), I would favor punting the more specific markup.

Thanks Ian. <data> has @href in DITA 1.3 also, so I'll leave it as it is in lwdita.

Yes, if <data> is used for recording metadata about the topic. I have a need -- and I am sure I am not the only one doing this sort of thing -- to record references used for a topic, including websites. That recording is carried out using <data> in the <prolog> and @href is the natural (hesitate to say semantic) attribute to hold the information for internal use.

Another question based on the sharp eyeballs of Scott Prentice: <data> has an @href attribute, this seems like a mistake. Do we need it?
