Subject: RE: Why can't I subscribe for updates on the wiki?

Mary;

I guess I don't quite follow the logic ...
  • http://wiki.oasis-open.org/ content is visible to non-members (a Good Thing)
  • non-members can't login, and thus can't make changes (a Good Thing)
  • non-members, since they can't login, can't subscribe to topics (a Neutral Thing)
  • members can login, and thus can make changes (a Good Thing)
  • members can't subscribe to be notified when changes are made by other members, and thus collaboration is hindered (a Bad Thing, IMO)
Perhaps there's something in MoinMoin's implementation that makes subscriptions a problem for the way oasis-open.org is using it? But how about this as a workaround:
The http://wiki.oasis-open.org/ admin makes the dita-sidsc@lists.oasis-open.org mail list a subscriber to all topics in the web underneath http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/Semiconductor so that folks who are part of the subcommittee are automatically "subscribed" to changes?
Just a thought...

Bob

Hi Bob,

  That functionality has been disabled since it would not be available to non-members.

Regards,

Mary

Subject: Why can't I subscribe for updates on the wiki?

Neil;

The DITA Semiconductor Information Design Subcommittee is trying to use the http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita for collaboration, but one big hurdle is that people have to remember to go look at the wiki to discover updates. When I select "Subscribe User" from the "More Actions" menu, I get the message "You are not allowed to perform this action". So how do we get email updates sent to folks when changes are made on the wiki?

Respectfully,
Bob Beims
