Subject: Re: [dita] Groups - DITA 1.1 XSDs (dita_xsd_1.1d.zip) uploaded

thanks for the explanation, Eric

on the plus side, I guess the way the spec arranges things makes it easier to track down where includes that are being redefined are coming from

too bad the wording was so opaque that the Java parsers didn't implement it soon enough to save some rework for you

Hi Dana,

The bug is in the schema because Xerces-J improperly validated the schema.
Xerces-J is currently including the content from the schema document before
doing the redefine. The definitions from the include schema document is
then part of the base schema document. So, there was no issue with the
redefine on the Java side. Other Java XML parsers behave in the same
manner.

In the spec it states that a redefine can only occur on the schema document
where the item is defined. - "In all cases there must be a top-level
definition item of the appropriate name and kind in the <redefine>d schema
document." Our XML Schema rep will look at possibly clarifying the 1.1
spec so that there is a statement that the redefine needs to occur before
an include.

I'll make the update to the schemas. Thanks.

No problem, Eric.

So the redefine bug was in the xsds, not in Xerxes-C?

If so, I think I've found another error: bookmap.xsd is throwing a redefine
error for the author group, which it redefines from commonElementGrp.xsd,
which includes it from metaDeclGrp.xsd.

In your comment, I don't see any different in the redefine.

Should the "To:" have xs:choice instead of xs:sequence?
