        You might also open the Word2000 files in OpenOffice (which is
        MS compatible and delivers native XML) and try to convert them
        into the Simplified Docbook format using Éric Bellot's toolkit
        (which calls a Python script).
        
        The instructions are in French, but he gives examples:
