I wasn't aware of doxygen generating docbook.
http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/output.html only talks about
'XML' output, which is "under development". Do you have any other
references, or even examples ?

(I'm not looking for a tool that I can use to document my APIs
  with docbook. Rather, I'm looking for ways to use docbook to
  format (in particular: structure) my documentation that
  was extracted from source code, i.e. modules, classes, functions,
  types, variables, etc.)
