We will check again after the holiday that the date is ok, but as of today, this date is good for the next meeting.

5. Review of open action items
a. All: Identify eLearning sample content for use in developing the schema and documentation
Scott summarized how the idea for this group began. The DITA elearning work he was involved with led to the idea for this group. In that previous effort there were few public elearning samples to test with. That is an important issue for this committee--to find public samples of content for testing.
Action: Justus will summarize how DocBook slides have been helpful in his work with elearning and what is lacking in that process.
We could use either the OASIS wiki or the DocBook wiki for communicating samples, design documents and ideas.
Action: Scott will setup a SourceForge repository to hold our schema work and sample files. He will also check with Mary on the wiki issue.
6. Proposed Roadmap
a. Review modular DocBook proposals and provide feedback to TC
It was decided to use RelaxNG (and not DTD/XSD), with possible Schematron additions.
Action: Justus will check on whether not supporting the DTD/XSD schemas will lock us out of working with major elearning providers.
b. Review best practices in eLearning structures that should be considered for DocBook eLearning.
DocBook5 has enhanced support for modular content. At our next meeting Scott will go through the latest proposal with special attention to the assembly model. We may be able to suggest further enhancements back to the DocBook Technical Committee.
c. Identify general eLearning needs not currently met by DocBook
What standards should we agree to interoperate with so we don't lock out others. We do not want to create a conflicting specification with others--we need to interoperate.
People are converting from DocBook to SCORM-compliant packages. SCORM is a packaging specification for delivering content to an elearning application. The SCORM specification was put out by the IMF group and has a set manifest schema. We want our packaging to be easily convertable to SCORM.
d. Identify additional specific domains within the eLearning industry that may need specific modules.
What are people doing with DocBook and elearning now, and what is missing from DocBook that is needed (e.g. learning objective), and what could be excluded to create a subset of docbook?
Jirka has used docbook for exams , q and a, and exercises.
Action: He will summarize the experience of others he knows who are also using DocBook for elearning.
Scott has worked with publishing content models from major publishers who wrote their own schemas.
Action: Scott will try to identify the commonalities among the schemas and see if they can be added to our list of items to be added to the design.
e.g., display a topic or concept in a modular way, assessments, learning objectives, etc.
The IMF QTI (question and test interoperability) specification is very complex; We should learn from that experience and make our spec as simple as possible. Similarly, DITA elearning enhancements have a complicated standard for elearning, making it difficult to implement. let's learn from what they've done and take the best parts, jettisoning whatever complexity we can.
e. develop RFEs from identified needs
What have the DITA people done that we should know about? We will all review the findings here:

Note especially that 508 compliance (accessibility) will be important.
f. develop DocBook v5.0 schema enhancements from RFEs

Scott will take enhancements for elearning that might also help DocBook proper to the DocBook technical committee.
